You Don’t Have to Love Your Period (Who Even Decided That?)

You Don’t Have to Love Your Period (Who Even Decided That?)

Let’s just say it out loud: you don’t have to love your period.

If you do? Cool!! But if you don’t…that’s very valid and it should be just as normal.

Somewhere along the way, it started to feel like we had to be “period positive” all the time. Like every cramp needed a silver lining, the pain had to be turned into empowerment quotes and soft pastel graphics. And, well…there’s nothing wrong with positivity. But forcing it too much on women is another story.

Because sometimes your period just…sucks and pretending otherwise can feel exhausting.

The Dread Is Real

We hear it all the time: From friends, customers, and strangers on the internet who finally feel safe enough to say it out loud.

The cramps, bleeding, the heavy, uncomfortable feeling of your body suddenly weighing more than it should, and even the energy crash that hits right when you still have work, school, kids, errands…in short: life.

The insane thing about all of this is that: You’re still expected to show up like nothing’s happening. Because meetings don’t pause for it, deadlines don’t move, and the world doesn’t exactly ask if your uterus is okay today (which we really wish it does!)

Loving your period is not a requirement. Nope!

Even We Don't Expect You to Love It

Despite our products being related to menstruation or periods, we want to be very clear about this: even us—the people who design period underwear and swimwear—don’t expect you to love your period.

That’s not our goal.

You can dislike it. You can hate it. You can tolerate it on good months and resent it on bad ones. All of that is allowed. Creating better products doesn’t mean pretending periods are magical. It means acknowledging reality and asking, “Okay… how can this suck less?”

And then there’s the stuff we really don’t talk about enough.

The Not-So-Little Stuff We Avoid Talking About

Periods are a whole layer underneath that gets brushed aside, when it shouldn’t. Like not having access to a clean, safe bathroom when you need it, or how expensive period products can be, especially when you don’t have many options, or the fact that some products contain plastics and chemicals you probably didn’t sign up for. (Yes, including “forever chemicals.” That part alone deserves a pause)

And then there’s the social side of it all.

Feeling like you have to act fine, lowering your voice when you mention your period, and even laughing it off because you don’t want to make anyone uncomfortable.

Why is it still like this?

Periods are normal, but the way we deal with them often isn’t.

It's Not Just About Education

What’s missing is acknowledgment.

Acknowledging the frustration, unfair parts, the emotional weight, environmental impact, and the quiet ways periods shape our daily lives.

There’s so much that comes before the “live, laugh, love” version of period talk. And skipping straight to positivity without addressing the hard stuff can feel…invalidating.

So Let's Normalize This Instead

Here’s what we want you to really know:

It’s okay if you don’t love your period.
It’s okay if your goal is just to make it suck less.
It’s okay to want better, for your body and for the planet.
And most importantly: Your experience is valid.

We shouldn’t normalize suffering.

We should normalize talking about it, questioning things, asking for change and giving ourselves grace when our bodies are doing a lot behind the scenes.

If you’ve ever felt ashamed, frustrated, overwhelmed—or even just curious about safer, smarter choices—you’re not alone in that, not even a little.

And maybe, over time, the mindset shifts from dread to something gentler, maybe not love, but…control.

If having better options (like thoughtfully made period underwear or swimwear) helps you feel a little more in control, that’s exactly why Savvi Wear exists.
